Description

CASTELGIOCONDO is one of the most important companies, the oldest and most deeply rooted in the territory of Montalcino. The Estate of Castelgiocondo, south-west of Montalcino, is located in an ideal terroir for the Sangiovese and the great wines produced here: the vineyards are staying at heights between 300 and 400 meters, well-drained soils have the sunny and favourable exposure to the south-west. Meticulous care in the vineyard, high density and low yields, allow you to produce a great Brunello di Montalcino, the fabric elegant and admirable longevity.

Intense dark cherry and a little acidic bite after 1hr in decanter. Started coming around after a couple hours. Definite leather and spice somewhat herbaceous on the nose. Still young and needs air to soften but drinking pretty good. Grainy tannin that was nice with rustic Italian but will be humming in 5 years. Great winemaking for the vintage!

Pop and poured through Vinturi. Pronounced acidity at first but disappeared after an hour. I love the restrained dark cherry with leather and earthy minerals. Paired splendidly with beef bourguignon (okay I did use 1/3 bottle of this wine to make the dish, so by default it should pair well!). I do wish it finished better though as the tannins were slightly chalky and the finish clipped.
