Property. Classified as 3rd Cru Classe.
With its eight hectares, Ferrière is the Medoc's smallest Cru Classé. Château Ferrière is a grand cru which was apparently sleeping the sleep of Sleeping Beauty for several decades.Third Grand Cru Classé, this wine has been recognised as a high quality product well worthy of its classification. Its name comes from a family of Bordeaux doctors, one of whose members was mayor of the town. Unfortunately he was in office during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, and his stay in prison was a lot longer than it was at the Town Hall! This small 8 hectare vineyard was for a long time in the shade of the great names of Margaux. It was successively considered as the second wine of Prieuré Lichine and Lascombes. The owners of Chasse-Spleen, who were sad to see this exceptional land underestimated, bought the property in 1988. The potential was there, and the new team's investment and competence did the rest.

Wine Spectator. 89 pts.
Aromas of blackberry and currant with lots of toasted oak. Beautiful nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a slightly austere finish. A little too much new wood at the end now, but should come together with bottle age. Best after 2008
