Description

A wooden case of 12 bottles - until recently professionally cellared and all in perfect condition.

The presence of Luc Thienpont - the owner of the famous Vieux Château Certan in Pomerol - is undoubtedly linked to the quality of this 38 hectare property, located on the Marsac plateau, and which he bought in 1970. A full-bodied wine, with a truly intense bouquet and fine tanins; this is the true Margaux style which justifies the interest this wine awakens around the world.

Sold recently to the neighbour Chateau Lagorce. Luc Thienpont with Jean-Luc Vonderhayden at Monbrison formed the neucleus of forward-thinking winemakers from the mid 1970's. With some notable exceptions (Palmer) Margaux had been resting on it's laurels for quite some time (including Château Margaux itself) and they provided a stimulus which has extended to the whole appellation.

Decanter notes:

10/10/2007
Solid, deep cassis fruit nose. A full, rich, concentrated style with depth of fruit, full tannins, plenty of oak and a great future. Drink 2009-12.

20/04/2005
Fine deep colour, good Cabernet fruit, clear and elegant in true Margaux style with finesse and length. Drink 2009-18. (16.5 points)

Wine Advocate #171
Jun 2007 Robert Parker 85 Drink: 2007 - 2013 $38 (18)
A straightforward, elegant, somewhat superficial effort, the 2004 Labegorce-Zede exhibits a dark ruby/purple-tinged color along with smoky, herbal notes intermixed with nuances of cherries and dusty earth. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.

The blend comprises 50% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
