When looking for good value Bordeaux, Beaumont should be on your shopping list. And in a great vintage such as 2005, these wines make exceptionally good buys indeed.

Now part of the Beychevelle stable, our members' favourite Médoc has played a blinder in 2005, producing a Claret of silky suppleness and great finesse. Now–2017. The Wine Society

They say that 2005 was such a brilliant vintage for Bordeaux that you can stick a pin in a map randomly and find something delicious and Château Beaumont is no exception. It is not only no exception, it is one of the most perfect examples you can find.

Beaumont has for years been a very useful little Cru Bourgeois property but in 2005 it simply excelled itself. It is, and will be, better than their 2009. Extraordinary glycerin and puppy fat makes this wine immediately accessible but in the unlikely event that you returned to a half finished bottle the following day it would be still be drinking just as well, possibly even better.

Space limitations did not allow complete tasting notes for this Cru Bourgeois, but 2005 is the finest vintage for these wines since 1982. The range of scores for these wines should give readers an idea of just how consistent this vintage is at this level. Given the style of the vintage, most of these wines should be accessible young yet evolve for a decade or more because of their concentration and tannic structure. Drink 2006-2016.
