2005 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru) Burghound, 1/1/2007, 1st Quarter, 2007, Allen Meadows (web) 89-92 A more elegant mix of red, black, violet, earth, spice and game notes blends into extremely rich and full-bodied flavors that are dense, serious, concentrated, palate drenching and complex on the beautifully long finish. I quite like this as it offers buckets of character and excellent aging potential. (drink starting 2015)

2005 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru) View From the Cellar, 11/1/2006, Nov/Dec 2006, John Gilman 91 The Clos des Porrets is a monopole of the Gouges family, and it is excellent in 2005. On the nose the wine is more closed than the village Nuits, but again, remarkably suave, as it offers up a mélange of black cherries, dark berries, a lovely expression of minerality, vinesmoke, dark chocolate and a topnote of violet. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and intensely flavored, with great purity and focus, tangy acids, and a long, ripely tannic finish. (drink 2014-2040)
