Description

A benchmark Australian Shiraz and the summation of Gibson’s viticultural skills, reflective of his mastery of vine management. The Old Vine Collection are like living plant relics of the past, a kind of viticultural Jurassic Park. Gibson ferrets amongst Barossa’s housing estates until he finds the old forgotten vines which he then revitalizes. Some of the vines date back to the mid 1800’s, whilst others belong to the early 1900’s.

Superb multi-layered nose that reveals from the first sniff that this is all class and sophistication. Opaque black deep purple colour. Top note of vanilla, violets, confectionary, spice and liquorice allsorts. The palate is perfection. Layers of vanilla, spice, black pepper, plum and violet infusions fill the mouth. Perfectly balanced with exceptional length and depth of flavours. Very long persistent aftertaste of spice, black pepper, violet infusions, cherry and ripe plum.

"The 2005 Shiraz Barossa Valley 'Old Vine Collection' was aged for 20 months in new French oak. It is purple/black with a big, brooding nose of smoky oak, bacon, grilled meat, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Tightly wound on the palate but oozing with spicy blue and black fruits, the wine is balanced, structured and very long in the finish. It requires 6-8 years in the cellar and will drink well through 2035."
