"The 2007 Imperial Gran Reserva is again a great wine in the making. Red fruit and plenty of spices (nutmeg), the palate shows great acidity and abundant tannins that need resolving with time in bottle. Great tension and nerve. I think it will take some time to be released, which is good as it will require some patience. Drink 2016-2021." ~ AG

" 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Mazeuelo - all a selection of the best grapes from vineyards surrounding the village of Villalba, in the heart of the ‘Rioja Alta’ zone, grown on iron-rich clay and limestone soils. Extended aging takes place in French and American oak casks, followed by further aging in bottle; generally aged a total of 10 years before release. " ~ Winery notes

"Dark ruby. Cherry-vanilla and raspberry aromas boast good clarity and develop a peppery nuance with air. Crisp and light on its feet, with tangy cherry and redcurrant fruit flavours dusted with fine-grained tannins. Finishes dry and brisk, with an echo of vanilla and very good cut and length. More lithe and pure than the very good 2006 version; I really like this wine's clarity and focus." -Josh Raynolds
