Wine Advocate 4/2009 95-97 points. 5/2011-95 points

5/2011- One of the superstars of the vintage, this classic is not as showy nor opulent as the 2010.2009, 2003 but it offers a dense purple color followed by gorgeous sweet black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit intermixed with long earthy forest floor notes, a floral component, and a long full bodied finish. The 08 was fashioned from yields of less than 44 HL/Ha, slightly lower than the 2010. Leave it 5-8 years and leave for the following 20.

4/2009 An individually great Montrose. After some time in wood it showed the heights of the 03, 90 and 89-this superb terroir west of the Gironde River possesses a remarkable amount of gravel. Only 60% of production made it to the 08 and the person responsible for many great Haut-Brions, Jean Bernard Delmas, took charge of the last few vintages. An inky purple color is accompanied by sweet, pure aromas of black fruits and spice. this full bodied wine exhibits superb concentration, sweet tannins , a multilayered, full bodied, textured mouthfeel with no hard edges. The sweetness of the tannins and the extraordinary purity of fruit and intense concentration suggest a year of greta ripeness. The difference between the 08 and 03 is freshness and purity of expression should be along lived wine which will age 35 years yet it will drink surprisingly well when young
