LEOVILLE BARTON REVIEWS
Wine Advocate 92 points
Typically extracted and powerful (which is atypical in a vintage such as 2008), this offering may lack charm, but it is “locked and loaded” with plenty of background oak, huge black cherry and black currant fruit, medium to full body and a boatload of tannin. Forget it for 8-10 years and drink it over the following three decades.

Tasted ex-château and single blind in Southwold. The Leoville Barton 2008 has a very ripe, opulent bouquet that reminded me of Poyferré! It has impressive definition and purity; very good lift but there is a lot of oak to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent, velvety entry that disguises its serious tannic backbone. It is very stylish and suave, although there is just a touch of dryness towards the finish. I think it will improve with another decade on the clock. Tasted January 2012.

LA LAGUNE REVIEWS
Wine Advocate 95 points
It is not unusual that the 2009 La Lagune is a spectacular effort given the fact that this estate has been making terrific wines over the last decade or more. It boasts a dense purple color as well as a beautiful perfume of blueberries, mulberries, cassis, white chocolate and subtle toasty oak. Notes of Chinese black tea, cedarwood and forest floor also make an appearance in the singular aromatic and flavor profiles. This sumptuous, full-bodied La Lagune possesses low acidity, abundant but ripe, sweet tannin and a long, 45-second finish. Give this beauty 5-7 years of bottle age and drink it over the following three decades. Drink: 2017 - 2047

Tasted at the Medoc UGC. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot, picked from 18th September (young Merlot vines) until 8th October. The La Lagune has a limpid purple/black colour. The nose is very tight at first, unfurling nicely with aeration to reveal succulent blackberry, bilberry, a fleeting scent of estuary mudflats that segues into more vanillary aromas from the oak. The palate hits all the right buttons: superbly balanced with fine but sturdy tannins, great clarity and focus, the minerality and sense of tension brimming over the finish. Good length. This is an assured, confident La Lagune that will be an absolute pleasure after bottling. Tasted March 2010.

[60CS/25M/15PV] Dense blend of Merlot mulberry and mineral to smell; beautifully balanced, fresh, elegant middleweight wine, very fine tannins, fresh acidity, excellent proportions; sweetly ripe, effortless, silky fruit, both deliciously ripe and tastily vital at once; long across the palate, long and faintly warm to finish, with excellent fruit length and light mineral aromas. Very nicely crafted, elegant, relatively supple and refined La Lagune. 2018-30+
