Description

Chateau Sociando-Mallet has for many years been a strong contender for being the most serious Cru Bourgeois wine within the Bordeaux Appellation and it shone in quality in the excellent 2009 vintage:-

"Shows precision here, with floral, blueberry and mineral aromas that follow through to a full body and firm and racy tannins. Very polished texture to this wine. Goes on for minutes on the plate. Back in form! Try after 2017".
(94 Points).

James Suckling. (JamesSuckling.com February 2012).

"The wine boasts huge concentration along with an inky/purple color, a full-bodied, powerful palate, and a long finish. Excellent purity, density, and minerality are present in this cuvee, and it is capable of lasting 30-40 years. This estate is situated on some of the finest terroir of the Haut-Medoc, near Calon-Segur in St.-Estephe".
(90-92+ Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. April 2010).

"Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Sociando ‘09 has a fragrant floral bouquet with lifted fresh strawberry, cassis and raspberry preserve that is well defined and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. This is very cohesive and focused with a backward but compelling finish that is fresh and vivacious. This is a wonderful northern Medoc".
(92 Points).

Neal Martin. (January 2013).

"What's so striking about 2009 - and I haven't seen this kind of excitement since 1982 - is the quality of the Cru Bourgeois and the petits vins and the generic Bordeaux that are available. In short,2009 is the greatest vintage I have tasted in Bordeaux since 1982,of which it is a modern-day version, but greatly improved.
Just like in 1990 and 1982,the low acidity, the very ripe fruit, the high glycerin levels from the elevated alcohols, and the stunning concentration and fruit from low yields will give most of these wines incredible appeal in their youth".

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #188. April 2010).
