Description

Grand Barrail is situated on stony clay-flint terraces known locally as Graves de St Emilion which strech from the north west of the village towards the communes of Libourne and Pomerol. Historically this region has always been recognised for the high quality of its extreemly delicate and elegant wines.

Bottled in June 2011 this was was the perfect vintage. Impressive budburst, early flowering, consistent veraison, and perfect weather conditions. The merlot (65%) and cabernet-franc (35%), planted on clay soils, did not suffer from the water shortage of this hot dry vintage. Yields were well controlled in this mature vineyard which dates back to over 40 years. The grapes ripened in textbook fashion allowing picking in the ebst possible climatic conditions.

The wine reveals an attractive dark colour, with purple glints and its sappy, roasted unfurls with notes of cedar and ripe red fruit. The palate is soft with silky smooty tannins backed up by refreshing acidity. The wine closes on a lingering finish accompanied by the same aromatic notes.
