Description

TWO lots of THREE bottles straight from a previously unopened wooden case and until very recently cellared under bond at The Wine Society.

Gilbert & Gaillard 93/100
Dark hue with purple-blue highlights. Expressive, intense nose marrying fruit and a slightly roasted oak tone. On the palate, full attack, ripe and silky tannins and racy aromas. A superlative wine boasting every desirable quality. And potential to boot.
Tasted: 04-Apr-2012

(Decanter's Bordeaux '05, '09, '10 tasting) :: Starting to get some real lift on the nose. A line of chocolate, flower petals, a touch of mud & minerals. Very dense fruit. Good.

4/8/2015 - FredF Likes this wine: 89 Points
Fruity, complex, interesting. Long aftertaste.

12/26/2014 - FredF Likes this wine: 90 Points
Rich fruity nose of strawberries and cherries, dark red in the glass. Smooth and soft in the mouth. Decanted for about one hour.

Still way too young, tannins dominant, astringent even after decanting and letting it sit for a few hours, will be much better later.

11/3/2012 - jerry6 wrote: 90 Points
let decant 4 hours , smooth , blackberries and cherries . 2nd day was a bit better . Should be great in 4-5 years

Decanted for 8 hours, since it's so young. The wait was rewarded. Very smooth with a great after taste. Worth waiting at least a couple of years before drinking again.

Some tasters were sure: this wine was a left bank Bordeaux, but alas, they were wrong; Grand Corbin Despagne is not a typical St. Emilion.
The wine shows more reserve and due to a higher percentage of cabernet also more freshness, but be sure within four to five years this wine will show its class.
