2009 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru) Burghound, 1/1/2012, January 2012, Allen Meadows (web) 92 This is riper still with cassis and red berry liqueur aromas introducing intensely mineral-driven and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a firm finish underpinned by good tension and beautiful persistence. This possesses unusually good delineation for the vintage as well as moderate austerity which is also relatively rare in this opulent vintage. (drink starting 2019)

Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices are woven together in a fabric of notable beauty. There is plenty of tannic material, but the fruit is so dense the wine’s structural elements are a bit in the background. The wine continued to close down in the glass, which is likely to be quite positive for its aging potential. Despite the massive temptation to drink this early, my impression is that patience will be rewarded. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. Frederic Mugnier insists that his 2009s will outlive his 2010s. Tasting these 2009s from bottle, it hard to argue with that view.
