Description

Grab yourself a selection of truly great wines from a magnificent vintage. I have sampled all myself and all are fantastic, especially the D'Armailhac and would suggest all will improve with 5-10 years of bottle ageing. I will be cellaring the others I have.

D'Armailhac Pauillac
The colour is dark and intense, almost black. The nose of chateau d'Armailhac 2012 opens on fruit aromas, especially black cherry, followed by toasted, roasted notes. The wine is immediately full and powerful on the attack, with well-rounded tannins and fruit flavours that develop notes of vanilla, roasted coffee and toasted nuts. The long finish is sustained by slightly toasted, oaky flavours. A powerful Pauillac of considerable refinement.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Tasted at the château, the 2010 D'Armailhac has a fabulous, opulent bouquet, with black cherries, boysenberry, almond and hints of cooked meat as it dabbles with secondary aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, with bold tannin, grippy in the mouth and immense weight. This is a very structured d'Armailhac, although it probably does not possess the finesse of the 2016, which I tasted alongside. There is great density hereùtensile and bold, with a grippy finish. It is a long-term prospect. Tasted April 2017.

Pibran Pauillac

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A major sleeper of the vintage, this under-the-radar Pauillac from the owners of Pichon Longueville Baron comes from a 42-acre vineyard, and the blend is divided equally between two grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Classic smoky barbecue notes intermixed with cassis, forest floor and cedar jump from the glass of this dense purple, thick, unctuously textured, rich and heady wine, which can be drunk in 3-4 years. Moreover, it should last for up to two decades. This is normally not too expensive a wine, since consumers do not follow it closely, so readers should take note. (RP) (2/2013)

Camensac Haut-Medoc

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Chateau Camensac 2010 has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, cedar and cigar box scents that demand coaxing. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, chalky tannins. There are plenty of potent tobacco notes here with a touch of spice on the finish. It is a little introverted at the moment, this should develop nicely with several years in the cellar. Tasted January 2014.
