Description

It has now become apparent that 2010 was one of the greatest vintages ever in Brunello di Montalcino.
Castello di Romitorio is a magnificent twelth century hilltop fortress.Founded by artist Sandro Chia (who no doubt has input into the label) in 1984,this Brunello vineyard has 10 hectares of Sangiovese grapes grown on the surrounding steep Montalcino slopes and the estate achieved an outstanding Brunello di Montalcino in 2010:-

"The 2010 Castello di Romitorio Brunello do Montalcino is a gorgeous expression that will appeal to those who adore the softer and spicier side of Sangiovese.Bold cherry and blackberry stand to immediate attention with secondary aromas of tobacco, cedar and cinnamon in quick succession. The wine delivers more in terms of boldness and power than it does complexity but the overall effect works beautifully considering the quality of fruit in 2010.The style is upfront and bold with deep layers of richness and opulence. The wine is appropriate for medium-term consumption and would pair beautifully with stewed meats".
(94 Points).

Monica Larner. (The Wine Advocate. February 2015).

"Aromas of wild violet, perfumed red berry, tilled earth and a hint of underbrush waft from the glass. The elegant palate delivers layers of wild cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice, coffee and a hint of licorice. It's well balanced with youthfully austere tannins and bright acidity. It will age beautifully. Drink 2017-2030".
(94 Points).

Kerin O'Keefe. (The Wine Enthusiast. May 2015).

"So much Tuscan dust on the nose. You can smell the soil, not to mention the dark fruits and flowers.Full-body with firm, silky tannins and a long, intense finish.Tight and structured.Try in 2016".
(94 Points).

James Suckling. (JamesSuckling.com January 2015).

"Wine lovers are rejoicing at the incredibly high quality of the vintage, and rightly so.The 2010 is a new benchmark for Tuscany's icon wine, producing reds with incredible intensity, structure, and energy.I find the depth of fruit, flavor and savory, almost mineral undertone of these wines spellbinding".

James Suckling. (2010 Brunello di Montalcino Report).
