Description

A mixed half-case of the cheaper end of the 2014/5 Rhones, for drinking now. All bought en primeur and kept in reserves. Note £12 delivery charge. Contains:

1 bot Crozes-Hermitage Le Grand Courtil Ferraton 2014
Drinking 2018–2027. A fine, concentrated Crozes from vines to the east of Hermitage and from similar soils.
1 bot Massif d’Uchaux Grande Reserve Ch St-Estève 2014
Drinking 2017–2025. During the summer, St-Estève provides the setting for a Liszt-inspired piano festival. Other than that its day job is to produce stylish, top-value red Rhônes of striking beauty and simplicity. Perfectly polished red in 2014.
1 bot St-Joseph Offerus Selections Jean Louis Chave 2014
Drinking 2018–2025. This used to be a négoce wine but these days it is almost wholly from Jean-Louis Chave’s own vines, mostly in Mauves from the old Domaine Florentin. The effect on quality is discernible, with much more depth and weight of fruit. The 2014 vintage is dark and sinewy with fat and length.
1 bot Vinsobres Cuvee Reference Dme Jaume 2014
Drinking 2019–2027. The Jaume family make The Society’s Côtes-du-Rhône for everyday drinking. But the aim is to become best known for Vinsobres. This southern Rhône cru differs from most of the others, for syrah plays an important role and is seen as having real potential. The blend here is 60% syrah with 30% grenache and a little mourvèdre. Barrel aged, ripe, dark and elegant with the concentration of the vintage.
1 bot Crozes-Hermitage Nicolas Perrin 2015
Drinking 2021–2027. This is fabulous Crozes, fruity with depth and finesse. The sources for the grapes are impeccable with the contacts coming from Nicolas Jaboulet and the technical wizardry, including some very classy oak vats, from the Perrin family. The 2015 has an added dimension, with greater weight and length.
1 bot Lirac Ch Mont-Redon 2015
Drinking 2018–2025. Lirac remains little known, living in the shadow of its two illustrious neighbours, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel. Cheaper land prices have however attracted many producers from these better-recognised areas to buy vines here, including Mont-Redon. This is a lovely, elegant and refined red, certainly Châteauneuf-like in style and equally full and generously flavoured.
