Egon Miiller Scharzhofberg Riesling Kabinett 2001 is one the best in Germany. I opened a bottle three weeks ago and it was sublime and last glass tasted four days latter was the best. Perfect for summer drinking.

What follows is from David Schildknecht for International Wine Cellar(Steve Tanzer) Egon Miiller, Scharzhofberg A
small crop, low juice-to-skin ratios, and, in Miiller's words,
"myriad other tiny factors" added up to an unusually small 2001
collection (just a dozen wines) at the venerable Scharzhofberg,
and one which has engendered considerable controversy. Says
Mullen "There's no doubt that if you look at the acids of 2001,
they seem to be those of a poor vintage; on the other hand the
must weights look like those of a great vintage. I am openly
telling all of my clients, 'If you want to buy 2001s, then put
them in your cellar.' But I think this vintage will appeal to true
lovers of Saar riesling," by which he means those with old-time
expectations of high acidity. For my part, I find the best of
these compellingly, at times mysteriously, distinctive and I
believe they issue a challenge that genuine devotees of great
riesling and those of the Scharzhofberg in particular will find
irresistible.
