Description

I have for auction, two bottles of this delicious Italian red of Global renown.

This Amarone Della Valpolicella Pra' (I feel the need to explain here that, despite being completely bilingual (English and Italian) I am having to spell Pra' using an "a" followed by an apostrophe at the end. This is because I do not have the suitable accent on my English keyboard, and not due to my lack of knowledge of the relevant Italian grammar or syntax!!) is a great example of this wine. A bit of a 'beast' even by Amarone standards, it comes in at a hefty 17% alcohol (around 15% or so is closer to the norm).

Its weight, opulence, purple/ruby colour (these wines would be far more purple and 'inky' in colour, were it not for the presence of the near-Beaujolais style Corvina grape; making up 30% of the blend in this case. Please see below) and body, make it a perfect companion to aged cheeses (any of the 'blue' variety in particular), along with well-flavored ham or salami, and slow-cooked stews based on red meats.

Hailing from the Veneto region in the Northeast of Italy, the varietals in Amarone tend to be the less well-known, Rondinella, Molinara and Corvina grapes.

The 2010's seven years of ageing in total, mean it is now hitting its sweet spot, and drinking beautifully. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored this wine 95 points, while Wine Spectator scored a respectable 92 points.

The Pra' 2010's retail value in fine wine merchants is now, around the £40 to £45 markI may be willing to split my lot and sell each bottle separately, depending on the offers made. Please 'message' me if you would like to explore this route.
