Description

These wines represent a selection from some high quality but little known Australia producers, most from cooler regions such as the Hunter Valley, Adelaide Hills and Orange. The stock comes from the cellar of a now-defunct merchant and is in excellent condition.

DEEP WOODS EBONY 2007

Deep, claretty nose - slightly like a good Moulis. Cassis, cedar, leather and a touch of farmyard. These continue in the mouth and the wine exhibits a reasonable length, if no huge complexity. Well made. 3*

A range of winemaking techniques were utilised, including opentop fermentation, pre-soaking and post-fermentation maceration. The philosophy behind Ebony is simple – fruit richness, flavour and soft, approachable tannins.”

FIRST CREEK 2007

A straw to pale yellow wine with tropical fruit aromas, a hint of peardrops and a background of musk and spice. Flavours are mouth-filling with ripe pineapple and tropical fruit balanced with refreshing acid.

THALGARA BLUE DOG 2003

Classic ripe Australian Shiraz aromas - ripe blackberry, plum and smoke. Lots of eucalyptus here too. Ripe, rich and full. Plenty of fat and glycerol here. Palate-staining fruit and oak flavours. Not my style but would suit lovers of a bigger styles. 3*

Berry fruits with mulberry and spice aromas. The palate is long with well integrated ripe tannins and spicy oak giving great length and structure.
