Description

This is a rare chance to try a very special wine from Bodegas Hidalgo, one of Spain's finest producers.

I met Javier - who runs the Bodegas - in January and commented that after the delights of Gonzalez Byass's Tio Pepe En Rama I'd love to try an unfiltered version of his Manzanilla too. Given the rising interest in sherry in the UK I was sure I wasn't alone.

After a little bit of coaxing, Javier agreed to take a look at whether he might be able to do a small run for us.

Sherry is usually filtered and fined to stabilise it for shipping. In contrast the essence of this release was that the wine would be bottled in its natural state to preserve flavour - giving a much more complex and exciting drink. I wanted to give people the experience of drinking Manzanilla fresh from the tank without having to fly to Jerez.

We're now offering just 300 bottles on a first-come-first-served basis. This bottling is a real one-off and demand has been high. I've certainly enjoyed a few glasses with salted nuts and cold meats over the past month!

Due to the nature of this sherry it may contain some sediment and yeast. This is entirely natural and not harmful.

On receipt we would recommend storing the wine in a cool place. It is normally advised that Manzanilla should be consumed within three months of bottling. I have however been advised that a trial bottling made in March this year [8 months ago] is still showing very well and some experts actually recommend subjecting these wines to some ageing in bottle.
