Description

I have for auction, ONE “Collector’s Limited Release" case of SIX bottles of the 2012 vintage of Bolgheri's iconic Supertuscan, “Ornellaia”. This case has never been opened (including intact factory shrinkwrap and plastic 'ties') to preserve "collectability". PLEASE NOTE: the photos of the bottles and the opened case, are from another, identical case, which I have opened.

As you will see, the 2012 Collector’s case includes ONE bottle out of the six, whose label features the design of a prominent artist. In the case of 2012, this is Swiss Artist, John Armleder. This is a feature which has been done for about seven years now by Bolgheri, to 'capture' and celebrate the essence of that vintage through the label's unique artwork.

The 2012 Vintage was christened L'Incanto ('The Enchantment'), and this is captured in Mr Armleder's "splash" themed label.

It should be noted, that in the coming weeks I will be putting for auction a “vertical” of the 2012 and 2013 Ornellaia. Again, each will be a Limited Release Collector’s Case of six bottles per case, each containing one bottle featuring a different label, designed by a prominent artist, capturing and celebrating the essence and style of that year’s wine. Also included are an embossed wooden case, luxurious descriptive pamphlet, etc. A beautiful addition to any serious wine collection, the wines I will be putting for auction have been named “L’Incanto” (Enchantment) in 2012, and “L’Eleganza” (Elegance) in 2013. But more on these when I put them up….

Back to today’s beautiful offering: Composition: 56% Cabernet Sauvignon - 27% Merlot - 10% Cabernet Franc - 7% Petit Verdot.

I will not include pages of reviews or tasting notes here, as, with a wine as iconic as this, there is so much readily available on the internet. I will include the following however, for ease of reference:

having done considerable research online, the Price Range for a single bottle of 2012 Ornellaia is £ 101 - £ 151 GBP (source: wine-searcher.com, among numerous other dependable websites also). However, this is for a single, “standard” bottle of 2012 Ornellaia, and does NOT take into consideration the inclusion of the one, artist-inspired bottle with potentially collectible label, nor the other details such as, the “L’Incanto” embossing on the wooden crate, nor the luxuriously produced, explanatory pamphlet which is enclosed. Due to the nature of this limited production, Collector’s Edition case, I am only prepared, on this occasion, to sell the case of six bottles as one lot, and not to break it up.
