Description

Established by Etienne Bouvet in 1851, this is the second oldest producer of sparkling wine in Saumur. The company works with over 120 local growers, who produce grapes with the guidance of Bouvet-Ladubay oenologists. The wine is crafted by 'méthode traditionelle' (ie Champagne fashion) in Ladubay's high-tec winery in St-Hilaire-St-Florent. The wine is crystal clear with pale gold and amber tints. Hints of honey mingle with fresh fruit on the nose. On the palate, it is full-bodied, fresh and beautifully balanced.
"An exuberant fizz at first, this is obviously a very youthful wine. It settles down with a little time, the bubbles certainly finer, but still plentiful in number. The nose is suggestive of ripeness, the aromas showing only a light chalky tinge of minerality, and it is the fruit that shows most prominently. It has a full and exuberant palate with lots of texture and the sweetness of youth. Through the middle it tightens up revealing a little lemony bite, with great acidity and a firmer mineral tone. A good dry minerally edge coming in here too, with an almost sherbetty nuance. Dry, long, grippy in the finish.
