Bruno Borie's 2005 Hortevie (88-90 Points RP) St.Julien. No Reserve
Arrow

Description

The vineyard of Hortevie is one of the smaller vineyards in the Saint Julien appellation. The Left Bank vineyard of Hortevie is planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

When owner Henri Pradère died in 2005,this small 3.5-hectare vineyard was bought by the talented Bruno Borie of Ducru-Beaucaillou and absorbed into his other Saint-Julien estates.
The outstanding 2005 vintage was Borie's first year of production and Robert Parker was impressed with the wine:-

”This underrated St.Julien always manages to achieve ripe tannin no matter what the vintage conditions might be. The 2005 offers notes of black cherries, cedar, and black currants in a juicy, ripe, medium to full-bodied format. Terrific purity, sweet tannin, an impressive texture, and loads of elegance suggest it will be drinkable for 10-15 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage. Drink now – 2022".
(88-90 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate).

"If St.Julien produced a fruit bomb, this would be it. Herbal, olive, black cherry, cedar, and cassis notes emerge from this succulent, full-bodied, seductive, plush 2005. Impressively endowed with medium to full body, beautiful purity, and notes of cassis fruit intermixed with licorice, tar, pepper, and crushed rocks, this is fresh, tannic, vibrant, and more delineated than the 2004, but still amazing. It should drink well for 10-15 years or longer".
(88 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate.August 2008).
