Long established as one of the great growths of Pomerol. This is a legendary wine!

Information on Château Certan de May ** :
The vineyard of château Certan de May, one of the highest in the appellation, is set next to Petrus. Its old vines, with an average age of thirty years, are planted on clay and gravel. Harvested late and thus benefiting from the full maturity of the grapes, this wine of Pomerol reveals a very high level of quality. Its very balanced wine, rich and complex display woody and fruity aromas(cherries, currants, ...). Aging potential is impressive in great vintages such as 1959.

The wines of 1959 are held in the same legendary awe as those of 1961. Several communes made 'great' wines, among them Pomerol. It lists on wine searcher at around the £700 per bottle mark which speaks for its rarity and quality.

(Certan de May) A pair of ‘59s reminded us that court was now officially in session, and we first heard the testimony of the 1959 Certan de May. The nose was still fresh at age 52, and it had the classic Pomerol chocolate, plum and garden. There was still meat on dem bones in the nose, and light mahogany spice as well. The palate was soft and tender with strong limestone and clay flavors, and pretty citric tension (93).  93 points

Slight damage to the capsule caused by my 15 month old daughter recently........I suppose it could have been worse!
