Ch Langoa Barton, 3rd Classified Growth, and its sister property, Leoville Barton, 2nd Classified Growth, both belong to the Barton family, descendants of an Irish family which settled in Bordeaux in the 18th century and which has a long and distinguished history in the region’s wine trade

Anthony Barton is the current proprietor but is gradually passing the reins to his daughter Lillian. The two wines are models of typical St Julien restraint and elegance, and Anthony’s fair pricing policy, always with an eye to the long term , has won him many loyal friends amongst his customers.

Anthony’s bone-dry sense of humour, honed over 80 years, always makes this one of the most pleasurable visits to make during our forays into Bordeaux, but his laid back, relaxed style should not be allowed to mask the immense qualitative improvements he has wrought here since taking over in 1983.

The 1997 wine possesses the vintage's up-front charm and softness, good purity, and a medium-bodied, ripe, rustic finish.
