Description

**Robert Parker: 90 points**

Sweet notions of plums, black currants, caramel, and spicy oak are provocative and alluring. Subtle but substantial, layered, and textured, with medium body as well as sexy, up-front flavors, low acidity, and ripe tannin, this beauty is among the most evolved and flamboyant of the appellation.

Fine, rich deep and brooding. Intense with soft supple fruit and attractive finish. Another excellent wine from Didier Cuvelier.

"The Château Léoville-Poyferré 2001 has no intention of being upstaged by the millennial vin and although it does not quite have the same sense of completeness, it is one of those wines that was over-shadowed in its infancy but will come into its own over the next fifteen years A very deep garnet core, even more opaque than the millennial wine. The nose is very intense with great definition: blackberry, tobacco, a touch of sea salt and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, blackberries, tobacco, a hint of game and mulberry with a sweet touch of liquorice on the finish. Very well-balanced, still backward and with firm tannic grip on the finish. Very fine. Drink 2012-2030."
