Description

Chateau Potensac was a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel untill 2007 when the term was banned. It is in the Northern Medoc and is part of the Ch Leoville Lascases stable. A frequent over-acheiver it produced a lovely wine in 1996 that found favour with critics on both sides of the Atlantic:
Wine Advocate: 89 points; This is the most amazing wine this estate has ever produced. It is rich and long-lived. It boasts a dark purple color, as well as sweet, earthy, black currant and cherry liqueur-scented nose. There is terrific fruit intensity and purity, as well as moderate tannin in the medium-bodied, impressively rich finish. This wine should drink well between 2002-2014. A sleeper of the vintage. April 1999

Jancis Robinson: Ch Potensac 1996 Medoc 16 Drink 2007-17
Dense and dark crimson.Very different style of St-Estèphe from most. Some voluptuousness about the nose. Very complete with a beginning, middle and end – though just a hint of opverripeness – most unusual in this vintage! It would be easy to take this for quality but I am looking for a little more refreshment value. Oak is evident. Just a bit too earth-bound. September 2006
