Description

I am offering 3 Lots of 2 bottles each from this Boutique Chinon estate.

Each Lot consists of a single bottle of the following 2 wines:

Clos du Dioterie 2007
Clos du Chene Bert 2007

Both the above wines are £25+ per bottle.

Tasting notes - Richard Kelley

2007 Le Clos du Chêne Vert
Modern. Oak and oak reduction to the nose and palate. Well textured with good balance, but currently lost behind the wood and the reduction. Firm acidity and lacks character with only the wood showing on the finish. So much for being a 'site specific' wine. (08/11)

2007 Le Clos de la Dioterie
Deep appearance. Youthful red. This shows some oak on the nose, but with much greater integration than the Chêne Vert. More complex and complete with less winemaking and more terroir. The oak shows on the palate but should harmonise over time. Still very young but shows great promise and in a different league to the above. (08/11)

Overview from the Domaine

Clos du Dioterie
The Clos de la Dioterie is situated next to the winery, it dominates Les Varennes du Grand Clos. This vineyard of little more than two hectares boasts incredibly old vines (70 to 80 years), highly calcareous clay soil and north-east exposure, everything needed for perfect grape maturity. These very old vines, with a low yield (30 hl/ha - or 1,210 litres per acre), are given all the care and attention they need to flourish.
Winemaking. A rigorous selection while harvesting, meticulous vatting with exacting checks during vinification, careful monitoring of the maceration period: everything in this "cuvée" requires the greatest of care and attention to obtain results worthy of its reputation.
This is a wine that will only give full expression after many long years.

Clos du Chene Vert
The Clos du Chêne Vert is one of Chinon's most legendary sites, actually located in the town itself, at Haute Olive, on the right bank of the Vienne.
The very steep slope of the small two-hectare south-west facing vineyard and its clay and silico-calcareous soil explains why it is one of the oldest "crus" (growths) of the appellation.
The site owes its name to the monumental chêne vert (green oak) that stands proud at the top of the plot. This tree is the new growth of an eight hundred-year-old tree planted by the monks of Bourgueil abbey in the 21th century. Average yield: 30 hl/ha (or 1,210 litres per acre).Prolonged ageing in barrels of 12 to 15 months is the last stage in the refinement of a wine with a unique personality. A very long-term keepong wine which will benefit from a few years of bottle ageing to "come into its own" and fully express its originaltity.

No Sellers fees. I am very happy to combine Lots to reduce postage charges.
