Description

The chateau was promoted to Premier Grand Gru Classe A status, in the most recent 2012 classification of St Emilion.

The Deputy Director of Chateau Angelus, Stephanie de Bouard commented upon the new classification “This [promotion] is the result of work done by a dedicated team over many years.. We are delighted, but it only confirms what the market was saying – placing us very close to the other two A-classed estates.

91/100 Robert Parker

Very deep, substantial fruit, very impressive, medium sweet, fleshy. Now to 2015 Michael Broadbent

45% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Franc. Another Cabernet vintage. A strong deep colour that looks far younger than the 2003. Like the 2004, this has a touch of pepper and plenty of tannin to match the fruit. This will be a well-balanced, mid-weight wine to consume at aged 10 onwards. Serious for the vintage. 16+ Farr Vintners tasting November 2011.

7/19/2012 -CANAN WROTE: Impressive nose with powerful black currant/berry fruit with just a hint of ammonium and coffee. Some black currant leaves also. There is a very nice black berry fruit with a sexy hint of vanilla on the mid-palate. A really well-built wine but just a hint of greenness to it. There is some green bell pepper, especially in the aftertaste. Also some creamy coffee notes. Impressive wine for the vintage!! 94-96p.

10/10/2010 -ROB MACKAY WROTE:93 Points
The more 2002 I drink, the more I think that the vintage is totally underrated. This 02 Angelus was no exception. Brought to dinner at The Steakhouse at Harrah's Reno and decanted for about 45 mins before the main course. Shows a powerful and rich nose of earth, tobacco and blackberries. The aromas just waft out of the decanter and had the people at the next table asking us what wine we were drinking. Takes about 30 mins to relax in the glass and then shows a wonderfully complex palate of fruit, earth and tannins that are just starting to integrate. Fantastic bottle.
