Description

Under Henri III, Beychevelle was the fief of the dukes of Epernon. The first duke, Jean-Louis Nogaret de la Valette, French Grand Admiral, was all-powerful. According to the legend, all ships had to lower their sails when they passed in front of his château, as a sign of allegiance, hence the name “Baisse-voile” (lowering of sails)

The estate is now approximately 250 hectares, of which 90 are dedicated to vines. The 1855’s classification made the wine a 4me Cru Classe.

The grapes varieties are Cabernet-Sauvignon (62%), Merlot (31%) and petit Verdot (2%)

The 1981 vintage scored 86/100 Parker points
