Description

I have for sale one bottle of Chateau Beychevelle from the very good 1988 vintage. This is drinking very well now.

As you can see the label is stained but the foil and cork is in great condition and level is exceptional for the age.

Soft on the tannins, mellow and grand on the palate - wonderful wine offered by a dear friend for dinner - drinking very well now.

6/20/2015 - M DU VIN LIKES THIS WINE: 92 Points
Wine is still in great shape and no signs of fading.

I didn't expect much from this, but it was a beautiful wine. The cork was in good shape, and the wine immediately exuded notes of cedar, blackcurrant and forest floor. On the palate it was very elegant, with good acidity and stone fruit, and a very slightly bitter finish which didn't detract much. This is a medium weight wine (which was expected), not a powerhouse but really delicious. Based on other TNs I read here, I think I landed on a great bottle. It seemed quite young still, with a few years to go.

This wine showed very well tonight. Opened two hours before serving but did not decant.

Agree with last few post. It´s about to fade.
Out of the bottle it didn´t smell nothing and was completely tasteless. Slightly acidic water.
After about 15 minutes in the glass it smelled burned rubber. Still no taste.

2 hours in decanter started to get alive. Opened up on the nose and started to get some taste. A lot of tannins for such and "old wine".
I poured it back to the bottle in covered with cork. Gave it another 2 hours.
It kept improving.
Smooth and earthy/woody chocolate and leather on the nose.
Good acidity, smooth tannins. Just slight of spices towards finish.

Paired it with biff/chanterelles/leek in creamy sauce. Worked really well together!

Lovely wine. Probably was even better few years ago, but I really enjoyed following its resumption back to life and I did enjoy the wine it self a lot!

The cheapest you can find this in the UK is £73 per bottle. The reserve I have set is substantially less than this.
