Description

Cantemerle outperformed its 5th growth status in 1983, producing a wine which Parker scored 91 points way back in 1998. He also said it needed drinking by 2005, but he certainly got that wrong!

Deep red/garnet color, medium body, good clarity, very little sediment, needed two hours to open up, and much better after several hours. Remarkably bright fruit flavors, smooth tannins, not the deep richness I expected from an aged Bordeaux, but more youthful. Very nice.

Jim's Big 6-0 Bash with Wine of Particular Significance (Jim and Michelene's Place, St. Paul, MN): Dark red color, minimal bricking at the margin. PNP, drank 1 glass over a hour. This was in a pretty special place with everything right where it should be in a classically aged fine Bordeaux . One of those wines that has stood the test of time and now shows such purity and elegance, feminine grace. The nose is beautiful with pretty red fruits, fine earth, metallic minerality, wood spice, and dried flowers. The palate is perfectly balanced and well integrated, cassis, red raspberry, wood spice, a great silky texture, earthy, integrated tannins. 92+ to 93pts.

Medium garnet. Composed, laid back nose, quietly complex with red fruit, touch of polished wood, minerally edge. Medium bodied, elegant, fine-boned, fully resolved tannins, harmonious savoury red fruit, good length finish. Fully mature, touching ****.

Really floral and pads out and fills with air. Dried rose petals. This is in a really lovely place and far more vibrant than I'd expect. Really lovely. ****

These two bottles spent most of their lives resting in a cool Cambridge College cellar, until I "rescued" them last year.
