Description

Château Chasse-Spleen is a winery in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation of the Bordeaux region of France, just north-west of Margaux. Château Chasse-Spleen was selected as one of six Crus Exceptionnels in the Cru Bourgeois classification of 1932, and through later revisions until the annulment of the classification in 2007.

The vineyard area extends 80 hectares, with the grape varieties of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. On average 28,000 cases are produced annually of the Grand vin.

Classified by Clive Coates as the superstar of the appellation with the wines described as full bodied, firm and long lasting, but with a richness and quality of tannins rare in Moulis wines.

The classic milestone 1982 vintage still going strong. Described by Michael Broadbent as the first really important and well timed vin de garde since 1970.

Ideal growing conditions. Flowering early and evenly. Hot and dry summer, harvest from 14th September. The sun and fresh breezes enabled the Cabernets to ripen more normally. Rich tannic wines resulted.
