Wine Advocate # 183
Jun 2009 Robert Parker 95 Drink: 2009 - 2019
This 1982 is still displaying a beautiful deep ruby/purple hue as well as a stunning set of aromatics consisting of blue and black fruits, loamy earth, flowers, licorice, and spice box. The wine is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a silky finish. It appears to have hit full maturity, but it can easily be held in a cold cellar for another 10+ years.

Jun 2000 Robert Parker 96 Drink: 2000 - 2020
A spectacular performance for this wine, Cos d'Estournel's 1982 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color with light pink at the rim. Sweet aromas of jammy black fruits intermixed with roasted espresso and vanillin jump from the glass of this young, concentrated, full-bodied, succulent effort. An opulent texture, low acidity, and splendidly pure, concentrated, blackberry and cassis fruit suggest this 1982 can be drunk now, or cellared for another 15-20 years. An awesome wine!

Dec 1995 Robert Parker 96 Drink: 1995 - 2015
Like many 1982s, Cos d'Estournel was more flattering, opulent, and softer to drink in its youth than it is today. This estate tends to make a more elegant style of Bordeaux, but the 1982 is atypically thick, super-concentrated, rich, and powerful. Although approachable and even delicious if decanted an hour or more before serving, the wine reveals no signs of age in its opaque dark ruby/purple color. The tannin is more aggressive, but the wine still reveals that fabulous inner-core of sweet, jammy, blackcurrant and black-cherry fruit. There is considerable glycerin and body in this still youthful but immensely promising example of Cos d'Estournel. It has at least 20 years of life remaining . Tasted 16 times since bottling with consistent notes.

Oct 1994 Robert Parker 97 Drink: 1995 - 2015
Tasted 10 Times Since Bottling With Consistent Notes

A monumental wine, the 1982 exhibited gobs of explosive blackcurrant fruit from the very first cask samples tasted at the chateau in March, 1983. Unctuous, massive, rich, full-bodied, and loaded with extract and tannin, this remains one of the greatest Cos d'Estournels I have ever tasted. It is still youthful and firm, with huge reserves of fruit. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2015.

Wine Advocate # 88
Aug 1993 Robert Parker 96 Drink: 1994 - 2015
More dramatic and flattering to drink during its first 6-7 years in bottle, this wine continues to display more delineation, structure, and tannic clout. The wine has a dense purple, exceptionally youthful look, and offers unevolved, pure aromas of black-raspberries and blackcurrants intertwined with scents of vanillin, spices, and flowers. Rich and full-bodied, with high but soft, supple, ripe tannins, this super-concentrated Cos d'Estournel appears to be one of the finest wines this estate has made in the last fifty years. Given the massive extraction of sweet, ripe fruit, it is approachable, but I would counsel owners to wait another 1-2 years and drink it over the next 20 years. Last tasted, 6/93.

Wine Advocate # 84
Dec 1992 Robert Parker 96 Drink: 1992 - 2012
Last Tasted 8/92

After nearly seven years of opulent drinking, this wine, like many of the bigger Medocs from this heralded vintage, has begun to close up, revealing more definition, as well as more tannin and structure. The color is a healthy deep ruby/purple with no signs of amber at the edge. The nose still offers some of 1982's splendid ripe aromas. The huge scents of cassis and oak are more restrained than when I last tasted this wine several years ago. This is the richest and most concentrated wine Cos d'Estournel has produced in the last three decades. While the tannins are still sweet, they are much more noticeable than they were a few years ago. Full-bodied and rich, but closed, this large-scaled example of Cos d'Estournel needs another 3-5 years of cellaring. It should evolve for at least two decades.
