Description

One bottle of wine from one of the leading domaines in Chateauneuf du Pape. The current average retail price per bottle in the UK is over £60.

Some tasting notes:

“A nice mix of red fruit, herb and sweetly earthy flavors give appealing complexity, while soft tannins make it accessible now. The long finish promises improvement with age.”
Wine Spectator, 28th February 1998

“The 1994 was also outstanding. Considering it is nearly 20 years old, it still had incredible fruit flavour, but with slightly sweeter tannins and the all important freshness.”

Anna Von Bertele, Roberson Wine, 10th October 2013

“This wine is a bit closed at the time of tasting and requires a few more years ageing in the cellar before opening.”

Château de Beaucastel vertical tasting - Famille Perrin, 3rd December 2013

Tom Cannavan ,90/100

“Very dark, dense, black/brown colour. Big, dirty, manure/barnyard nose then slowly reveals crunchy, dark, red-fruits. Very deep and brooding. Palate is dry and full, with gorgeous earthy flavours. Meaty and sour with an uncompromisng, swaggering character. Fine tannic backbone coats the palate in the long finish. Tasted: 1-Jan-1998.”

Beautiful nose upon opening. Still there after an hour in the decanter, but less pronounced. Some iron notes early on, but largely disappeared with air. Lots of fruit and layered flavors. Super light and refined. Excellent, happy to have a couple more.

Funky nose, sweet herby fruit, some sappiness, mellow, mouthfilling - lovely tonight.

6/29/2019 - Milos Likes this wine: 95 Points
Drank from a magnum. Matched with delicious braised short ribs. One of the most satisfying wines I had in a long time. Colour is exactly where you think it should be showing maturity and slightly opaque. Nose of wild strawberries, straw, leather with herbs to add complexity. The palate is seamless, balanced with no hint of tannins yet the wine does not fall apart at all; just coats the mouth and leads to a long lasting finish. And long after I put my glass down I realized that I could still taste it on the back of my palate. So satisfying.

Fully mature and drinking nicely and typically.”
