Description

Chateau Yquem is without doubt the grandest and best known of all the great Sauternes estates. It is widely regarded the most exclusive dessert wine produced anywhere in the world. When classified in 1855, Yquem was granted the exclusive and unique title of Premier Cru Supérieur.

The bottle is in pristine condition having been stored for most of the past fifty years in a fantastic manor house cellar.

The following description was recorded in 2006 at a dinner attended by the CEO of Ch. d'Yquem Pierre Lurton and Stephen Williams, owner of "The Great Antique d'Yquem Collection"

Superb golden orange, no deeper than the 1962. Crystal clear brilliance and amber reflections.Nose hugely rich. Lovely candy and orange peel notes. A delicate nuttiness. Concentrated and complex bouquet.
Palate profound and splendiferous. Rich, pure caramel and Demerara sugar, with touches of gentle ginger spice which render it alive and vibrant. Very long in the mouth with a delicately lingering aftertaste. Superb vinification has made a work of art in what for some was a difficult year.
