Description

An outstanding vintage, one of the finest of the decade. Hot dry summer, some welcome rain in September, followed by good harvest conditions including excellent botrytis and sustaining acidity.
A lovely wine, deep amber-gold with very bright orange highlights, glorious fragrance, orange blossom, lanolin and crème brûlée; very sweet, very rich, exquisite flavour, good length, 'hot' acidic finish. Long Life. May 2005 ***** Michael Broadbent

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 1975 may turn out to be the greatest of the modern-day Yquems. When fully mature in another 25-30 years, it may rival the extraordinary 1937 and 1921. This wine continues to evolve at a stubbornly slow pace. It is far more backward than recent vintages such as 1983 and 1986. Nevertheless, it is awesomely concentrated, has perfect balance, and displays the telltale Yquem aromas of vanillin oak, tropical fruit, pineapples, honeyed peaches, and grilled almonds. There is exceptionally crisp acidity that pulls all of the massive extract into precise focus. This is a wine of astonishing power and finesse, with a finish that must be tasted to be believed. It is a monumental effort that may well justify a perfect score in another decade. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2060.

Legendary Château D'Yquem Tasting * 1893 - 1983 * (Old Swiss House, Lucerne, Switzerland): The legend of tomrrow and only a matter of time until it reaches the triple digits!
Clear light copper in color. Nose of apricots, saffron and malt. In the finish it showed an enormous length and complexity. Bitter almonds, orange peel, acacia honey and hints of molasses. All very elegant and balanced. What a beauty!

I cannot think of many wines that have displayed this level of consistency. This stunning wine has been perfect on more occasions than I can count. After a night of great wines, time and time again this has been scored as the wine of the night on numerous occasions. With its flashy display of decadent tropical fruits slathered in honey, vanilla, flowers, spice and candied citrus peel, it’s easy to see why. On the palate, the more than :60 finish has the perfect balance of acidity, giving it lift and freshness coupled with dense, ripe, over ripe and extremely ripe tropical fruits. This is the wine to buy, if you can afford it.

Rarities at 11 Madison (11 Madison Park): A classic Yquem for current drinking, it has a darkish color and a fabulous nose of sweet brown sugar and limestone minerals. Very sweet and decadent fruit with tons of botrytus but with a classic structure underneath. Big and full with great breadth on the palate and the finish is endless with great notes of brown spices and minerals. Classic Yquem that should last for another century! 96+
