A very instructive vintage served at the château with aged Comté and a creamy blue cheese. In the UK we tend to think of 1976 as a heatwave vintage but in fact in Sauternes 1975 was hotter than 1976 and the 1975 Yquem is much richer than the 1976. (There was no 1972 nor a 1974.) Fresh, racy, very slightly simple in Yquem terms but beautifully balanced. (JR)
