Description

Two bottles of this 3rd growth Margaux from a case recently removed from a Cambridge College cellar - maybe just in time for somebody's 50th birthday celebrations this year?

Average Cellartracker score 90.5 points, but with quite a bit of variability.

Given the excellent provenance of these bottles, these will hopefully still be drinking at peak like these bottles:

1/17/2013 - SALIL WROTE: 94 Points
CT blind group tasting at my place (Vernon, CT): Best showing I've had from any of my '66 Giscours by far. This one (from a bottle with a high shoulder fill) is really showing superbly. Mature fruit, leather, dried floral notes and savoury tobacco and earthy flavours all coming together seamlessly into a very polished, elegant whole. There's a brightness and vibrancy to the fruit that I didn't find in my earlier experiences with this, a silken texture with tannins fully integrated, and impressive length. Fantastic.

2/21/2011 - WINECIGAR WROTE: 95 Points
45 years old and it was still drinking beautifully. A nose of cherries, tobacco, and a hint of leather. It's color was thinning but still vibrant. It was smooth and still full of flavor. Tannins totally gone. Just an amazing experience. I have one bottle left and will drink it soon. I expected something closer to vinegar when I took it out of the cellar. What I got instead was shear pleasure. We drank it next to an '89 Margaux and an '89 Cheval Blanc. It held it's own!!!
