'The 1988 is probably a 30-year wine. Extremely hard and backward, but concentrated, long, and full-bodied, it reminded me of the 1975, only less savage. Let's hope the fruit holds up. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025. Last tasted, 5/93. Drink: 2000 - 2025. 89pts'

'A deep garnet core. Quite bretty and animally on the nose but in a positive way. The palate has a dense core with good concentration. Thick black tarry fruit with a touch of dried prune. Very focused and classy though a bit dry on the finish. But a superb 1988 and far superior to Talbot. Drink over 10 years. Tasted October 2003. 90-92pts'
