Tasted by BradE on 5/30/2008: A subpar performance. Atypically fruitless and somewhat austere. (375 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 4/4/2008 & rated 91 points: Unquestionably this bottle was the best shape I've ever had this wine in. It's also the most broad-shouldered and expansive in scale, but it doesn't quite have the flesh to fill in the whole area, so it does come across a little hollow. That said, what material it does show absolutely screams Graves and Haut-Brion with its vivid aroma and finishing backdraft of succulent mesquite smoke. (587 views)
Tasted by cwheeler on 8/9/2007 & rated 88 points: On the nose, earth, liquorice, graphite and cedar. Soft, balanced palate with elements integrated. Not very complex, but enjoyable anyway. Needs to be drunk as soon as possible really. (678 views)
Tasted by BradE on 7/4/2007: Good showing from a good wine. (774 views)
Tasted by KenK on 6/3/2007 & rated 94 points: Not a virgin anymore - My first dinner at Bern's (Bern's Steakhouse, Tampa, FL): Dinner at Bern's. From magnum. Magnificent nose of gravel, iron ore, graphite, and black fruits jump from the stem. A sleek concentrated wine with meaty quality, dark chocolate, and loads of minerality. Very good depth and nice long rich finish. A very classy wine. (1271 views)
Tasted by winefool on 6/2/2007 & rated 94 points: Second Night in Mecca (Berns): From mag. Full purple with some red at the edges. Medium/full nose of tobacco and clean black fruit. Wow, lovely round lithe red fruit with classic HB iron notes. Very nice. (992 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 5/7/2007: Haut Brion Vertical at Craft in NYC (Craft restaurant, NYC): A bit dusty, but with nice sweet round fruit. Had a little funk to it. Quite alive.

Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 5/7/2007 & rated 83 points: Haut-Brion Vertical (Craft): Very aromatic with an array of mineral scents like iron and rust and beef blood, and carrying some of that on to the palate, which is rougher and rockier than the last bottle of this I tasted. But it doesn't last, and with a little time in the glass, leathery and slightly maderized aromas pop up and the wine tastes more anonymous. (1091 views)
Tasted by BradE on 10/14/2006: This bottle showed surprisingly well. A bit more backbone than other bottles. Liked it a lot. (1393 views)
Tasted by Icarus on 10/13/2006: Pre-Harlan Warm-up at Brad England's House: I found this to be much better than the 1961 served before it. Complex bouquet of dark fruit, tobacco, and earth. This wine tasted much more structured than the 1961 and had more concentrated and darker fruit. It was a real treat to taste these side-by-side. (1495 views)
Tasted by Siggy on 10/13/2006: Harlan Warm-Up Dinner (Brad's House, Minneapolis): Lighter body than the 1961. Youthful garnet color. Wonderful smoky red fruits. Balanced, elegant, and harmonious. Fantastic stuff. (1542 views)
Tasted by BradE on 4/13/2006: Fun in the Mountains (Beaver Creek): Good condition. As expected, this is a fleshy and soft wine. Past its prime, but an enjoyable drink. Held up over a few hours without any deterioration. (1931 views)
Tasted by loriannkru on 3/1/2006 & rated 90 points: Open that Bottle Night 7 (2/25/06) with Jamie, Marlies, Louise, Jim, Nicole, Andrea. Very nice, charming. Definitely is beyond its peak, but totally enjoyable. No tannin in site. Just lovely aged taste, mellow. Great with filet mignon and a green peppercorn sauce. Against the peppercorn sauce, stand up and sang. (1438 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 11/28/2005 & rated 90 points: Very fragrant, and as smooth as melted butter in the mouth, with the suppleness and tenderness you can only get from a wine that has the constitution to last as long as this did. Maybe it's undergoing a graceful decline; it doesn't scream Graves and there's hardly any tannin left, but this is a luscious wine despite its apparent fragility. (1920 views)
Tasted by winefool on 10/1/2004 & rated 83 points: (Wineflock 1st growth tasting). DOA in my opinion, group 10/11). Full garnet red. Full med fruit aroma with a hint of age. Dusty. Decent fruit left on the palate, but well past its prime. Hints of iodine. Probably not a particularly well stored bottle. 83 pts. 10/04 (1025 views)
