Description

Chateau Haut Brion Blanc Grand Vin de Graves Pessac Leognan 2001 was rated 93 points by Parker when he tasted it last in 2004.

He felt that it would be an extremely long-lived wine and that it would taste incredibly fresh and lively for many of these years. Anticipated maturity: 2004 - 2034!!

According to the chateau itself, this wine has a very original structure - completely different from other dry whites of the Bordeaux area. "First there is a scent of freshness dominated by aniseed and basswood. Then comes a whiff of little diluted verbena dissolving a soft trace of honeycomb. The finish is very complex: it mixes all those fragrances together, and then veils them with a touch of incense".

"The unctuousness, the suavity and the apparent softness of the Semillon are balanced by the fruity freshness of the Sauvignon Blanc". And "one also finds the flavour of finely-roasted, honey-coated almonds".

They finally state that "Thus it achieves the dream of the Larrieus: the aromatic fullness of a Sauternes present in a dry White wine...".
