Description

A single bottle of this Grand Cru Classe St Emilion in fantastic nick for its age of over 40 years old.

I've managed to find one fairly recent Cellartracker note, from 2004, which suggests that there may still be some real drinking pleasure to be had from this venerable old bottle:

"Densely coloured - extremely dark, almost opaque, with the centre a brilliant ruby/garnet, with a rim of amber; the bouquet starts out with a telltale perfumy smell - something I have begun to associate with aged Merlot, but I have some difficulty in defining or identifying it with a more common smell; it changes with each sniff to reveal other tertiary aromas of malt chocolate, spice and woody smoke; a jammy plum fruit also comes forth; round, and even a bit fat on the palate; excellent frame, where the fruit seems a bit sweet - mostly red currants; still some tannins, which extend out the fruit over a velvety or fuzzy background in the moderately long finish. Ten years ago this wine showed more fruit, and it carried out longer on the finish. Still it has held remarkably well."
