Chateau Langoa Barton 1978.

An excellent vintage in superb condition with good provenance.

3 stars Michael Broadbent (April 1997): "The wine rarely achieves the class and sheer perfection of the Leoville-Barton. (The chateau itself, however, combines the best of French elegance and inimitable British country-house perfection.) But it has a good shot at it with the '78. It reached it zenith towards the end of the 1980's: spicy, flavoury, pleasant and easy. Two more recent notes: now fully mature, with orange rim; showing maturity on nose and palate. Dry, crisp but still flavoury (1996), and, most recently, magnums at a Saintsbury Club dinner. Plummy coloured; again showing some age though it appeared to sweeten in the glass."
