Description

'Latour continues to be one of the great vintages for this chateau. A dense opaque garnet color reveals amber at the edge, as well as an incredible perfume of cedar wood, balsam, coffee, black fruits, leather, and cigar smoke. The wine is supple and full-bodied, with sweet tannin, glorious levels of fruit and extract, abundant glycerin, and a seductive, truffle-flavored finish. While it has been drinkable for two decades, it is capable of lasting another 20 years. It is a perfectly balanced, exciting Latour that remains undervalued as well as underrated. 95pts'

'Tasted three times between 2000 and 2003, one bottle a little dry but the others absolutely divine, one of which reminded me of Latour 1959 with less dimension. A glorious bottle at the Latour vertical in December 2004. Deep garnet core, very clear. A warm sensuous, sweet nose of black cherry, melted dark chocolate and pencil lead. Black truffles developing on acquaintance. Very smooth entry. Plush velvet texture. Wonderful balanced, exquisite and refined. Very fresh with seamless tannins and great fruit concentration. Cedar, chocolate, earthy and truffles. So, so graceful and elegant. The kind of wine you could drink all night. Pure nectar. 96-99pts'
