Description

Discovered amongst a host of rather less imposing wines (ask about the magnums of Libfraumilch 1983 or the Safeways Bulgarian red...) was this bottle of the 1965 LATOUR ! Ah the pleasures of digging around in old cellars...This one was in an underground and quite humid cellar near Chatham, Kent.

1965 Latour does seem to be quite rare. A perusal of Winesearcher is quite revealing - only 4 bottles (from £150 to £365) plus a comedian in St Emilion at £725, all plus local VAT...

A Decanter tasting note : "Medium-deep brick-red; sweet cedary nose; soft, easygoing, mature, some astringency, spicy, not bad but drink up; medium length".

Whilst the label has suffered - see photos - the level remains remarkable for a 45 year old claret - Top Shoulder - which I have tried to show in a photo. The label is complete but heavily `foxed` by humidity. It does in fact look a lot worse in my photo than it really is to the eye...
The embossed capsule is complete with no corrosion and no signs of any leaks.
