Description

For many, Chateau Latour is the epitome of claret. Many would regard it as the leading first growth, and in the eternal quest to find 'the wine of the vintage' it is frequently Latour that comes out on top.

If Lafite is renowned for elegance, Latour is prized for power. In recent years, no finer wine has been made in Bordeaux, for Latour displays an uncanny combination of deep color; Cabernet-dominated flavors of dark berries, licorice and minerals; the finest oak that money can buy; and great length on the aftertaste. The wine also has a phenomenal propensity for ageing well, with many tasters remarking that the 1899, 1900 & 1928 come high in their list of candidates for favourite vintage - ever! Typically, the blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 89 points

Wine Spectator: 91 points

'Dark ruby color. Decadent aromas of meat, figs and ripe fruit. Full-bodied, with a very good, compacted, fruity structure and a long, long, ripe fruit and earth finish. This is a seriously good bottle. Great value. Love it.--Latour vertical. Best after 2005. JS'
