Description

Deep, velvety, perfect, subtly scented, classic nose, excellent fruit and length, still tannic, somewhat fleshier than usual, extra dimensions, body, fruit, texture, length. ***(**) March 2007 Michael Broadbent - now to 2020.

In this tasting the 1989 provided the most charming drinking with its soft, voluptuous texture, big, spicy, cedary nose, sweet, expansive fruit, medium body, and excellent richness and purity. The wine reveals no amber at the edge, but it tastes surprisingly evolved and already delicious. Robert PArker Wine Advocate 1997 91/100

Wow! This wine has clear elegance on the nose. There's a delightful presence of mineral, restrained fruit. This impression is unchanged with the palate, which has fantastic stony fruit, with a beautiful structure. Elegant, soft tannins with balanced acidity. Still seems a little primary, and undoubtedly has some further potential yet. This is amazing wine, showing very well tonight. From a Bordeaux 1989 blind horizontal tasting. 19+/20 The Wine Doctor

Tasted by SimonG on 9/18/2012 & rated 94 points: Rupert's 89 'Super Seconds' Offline (The Medlar, London): Single blind. Denser, darker fruit, again, St Julien I think. Barton? A density here, and darker fruit. Very smooth and complete. This is good. Long, complex, persistent, harmonious. ****1/2

Tasted by jklaw7 on 4/29/2012 & rated 96 points:Perfect cork. High fill. Vibrant deep red color. Explosive nose of red fruits, and classic bordeaux taste on the mouth. A youngster, easy to drink after being opened but not decanted for 2.5 hours. Still must have decades left in it. Drank with grilled meats and with a group of 11, and several folks felt this was the wine of the night. Hard to argue the point!

Tasted by Reptibark on 12/11/2011 & rated 94 points:Classically styled and may be one of the better values that I've had in a long time, this wine presented a beautiful brickish hue and burnt ochre rim. The nose was a little closed at first but after 30 minutes in the decanter the nose showed lovely spice, sandalwood, dried herbs and a soft touch of craisin, but leans heavily on the herbal side. Palate was medium bodied and showed more fruit with tones of elegant red fruit and berries, though still showing non-fruit flavors of herbs, licorice and wood. The soft and rounded tannins allowed the wine to flow smoothly and everyone enjoyed it immensely.
