Description

An outstanding L'Evangile that may prove to be longer-lived than the sumptuous 1990, but perhaps not as opulently-styled. It remains one of the year's top efforts. The dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by aromas of minerals, black raspberries, earth, and spice. High tannin on the finish and plenty of sweet fruit on the palate suggest this wine will turn out to be extra special.

2/5/2017 - J O E WROTE: 94 Points
Very deep ruby, with no lightening at the rim. The 1995 L'Evangile gives off complex aromas of melted fudge, dark cherries and aromatic herbs. Distinctively cool in the mouth, with a melange of black plums, red cherries, minerals and earth. Finishes long, with some gently gripping tannin that makes itself felt long after the wine is swallowed. This is certainly not as flamboyant as some other vintages here, such as the 1982 or 1990, yet it is far from austere. Rather, this is a wonderful mid-weight, complex claret that is in its early drinking window. This will positively evolve for at least another decade, maybe longer. 94+.

Decanted for two hours and could have lasted much longer.
Nice but not overpowering nose and deep red colour
Lots of fruit: blackcurrant and berries.
