2013 New Year's Day Tasting (Marietta, GA): Showed much better than the first time I had. The leanness was still very strong in the lack of fruit and mainly gravel on the nose, but the palate was actually very rich and had plenty of intense fruit.

12/31/2012 - AJMORTON LIKES THIS WINE:94 Points
With little decanting, nonetheless was perfectly ready. Garnet colored, with nose of sandalwood, black pepper, and tobacco. Maybe even slight greenish tinge on the mouth which gives me the sense that this wine can still go on - in contrast to the suggested dates. Round texture with a medium long finish. Tremendous classic wine.

Ridiculously enjoyable. Granted, I love the LB (you either do, or you don't!) style but, this sang beautifully. Stood 750ml upright for a couple hours, then opened. Poured an ounce and let stand for 30 min. Poured another ounce and smiled. Popped in the fridge to bring back down to cellar temp, then dumped in decanter just prior to dinner/serving. Alongside beef tenderloin, green bean casserole and roasted potatoes, this was beautiful. Ever so slight bricking color; radiantly garnet. A hint muted on the nose, but eucalyptus present. The tannins are gorgeous; still ever-present to hold this structurally beautifully in place, but melded wonderfully into the palate. Cassis, bright fruit on the palate - of place. Basically, if you love old Bordeaux, this is simply terrific. Med-long/long finish. Obviously lovely today, but no apparent rush to open yours tomorrow. Merry Christmas, indeed!
